Tour Diary - Anglesey and North Wales, summer flora and fauna

31st May – 7th June 2025

Our Anglesey and Northwest Wales tour delivered a truly superb week of wildlife from the mountains to the coast. Chough, Roseate Tern, Peregrine Falcon, Black Guillemot, Pied Flycatcher, Dipper, Great Egret and Marsh Harriers headed up the birding highlights whilst our explorations took us into the realm of Arctic-alpine plants such as Purple Saxifrage and Alpine Clubmoss and following in the footsteps of Darwin on a geological journey of learning.

Silver-studded Blues sparkled, Small Pearl Bordered Fritillary basked and we even encountered Thrift Clearwing on the coast. We delved into rockpools finding Solar-powered Seaslugs and Velvet Swimming Crabs, awed at the vast tern and auk colonies on the coast, watched Harbour Porpoises surge through the tidal races and admired a plethora of rare plants from Spotted and Hoary Rockroses and Spathulate Fleawort, to the endemic Great Orme Cotoneaster, Maiden Pink and the tiny Atlantic Adders Tongue Fern.

A plethora of carnivorous plants and huge array of moths captured our imaginations. On the mainland the Celtic Rainforests dripped with life whilst on Anglesey Red Squirrels put on a fine show. We even managed to tame the heavens and get the very best from the weather! All in all, a truly diverse and spectacular week of wildlife.
