Short Tours - everything you need to know!

We are adapting to this ever-changing world and bringing you new ways to experience wildlife at its best, with your health and safety at the forefront of our operations.

On this page you will find details of our ‘Covid-aware’ approach and what this means for our tours, specifically our Short Tours that have been specially created to allow you to get back to nature whilst minimising the risk.

To give you piece of mind, we have updated our terms and conditions relating to the booking and joining process for our ‘Short Tours’ (see below). For Wild Discovery’s full terms and conditions click here.

Booking

For our ‘Short Tours’ full payment is required to secure the booking.

Booking with us is simple - download a Short Tour Booking Form or a Fully Inclusive Tour Booking Form and send the completed version to us at Explore@Wild-Discovery.com. We will send you an invoice detailing how to pay and what happens next. Once payment has been received the booking is confirmed.

On the Tour

Covid-19

We have been certified ‘Good to Go’ by the National Tourist Organisations of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and all our tours will be operated in compliance with government requirements. Although guidance is constantly changing, rest assured that we will be reviewing our policies and operations in line with any updates. If changes are required that may impact your booking we will contact you immediately to let you know, and if necessary, discuss options.

If within 2 weeks of the tour start date you have:

  • Covid-19 symptoms ,

  • or have been in contact with anyone with symptoms,

  • or have been in contact with someone who has tested positive for Covid-19,

  • or if you receive an alert from NHS Track and Trace,

then please do not come on the tour. Contact us straight away. If booking onto an alternative tour is not a viable option then we will give you a full refund.

What to Expect

Once your booking is confirmed you will receive an information pack about your Short Tour. This will include the meeting locations and times for each day, along with other helpful information, for example, about where to stay and how to contact your tour leader(s).

The Short Tours are all ‘self-drive’ which means that you have full control over who you share you vehicle with. If we plan to move between locations during a particular day we will provide details within the information pack.

We also allow you to choose your own accommodation which means you can make a short tour fit your budget or incorporate it into a longer stay away. We can provide advice on the best areas to stay to be central for each short tour.

Please bring your own food, snacks and drinks for each day. We are trying to minimise the need to enter shops and cafés during the tours. We will provide handy hints in your information pack about where you may be able to pick-up packed lunches in the areas we will be visiting, if you are not self-catering.

Please bring your own binoculars and spotting scopes if you have them. We kindly request that guests do not share optics, field guides, or other kit during the tours. Wild Discovery leaders will have a spotting scope for group use that can be cleaned and disinfected between users, however, given the time taken to do this it might not always be possible as wildlife can move rapidly and without warning!

As with all our tours, don’t forget to bring clothing to suit the UK weather, i.e. waterproof top and bottoms, sunscreen, warm layers, sunhat, thermal hat, gloves, etc. We recommend using a rucksack to carry your spare clothing, kit, food and hand sanitiser. More detailed information will be provided in your information pack.

During each day our walks will vary in length and strenuousness. Every walk will be at a leisurely wildlife-spotting pace. Some days we may end up covering several kilometres but the majority will be much shorter (1-3km over 2-4hrs). The terrain will vary from forest tracks to tussocky moorland. We recommend bringing stout footwear, walking boots and/or wellington boots (that have good ankle support) and walking poles (if required).

We will factor in comfort breaks each day although please follow stringent hygiene practices if public toilets are to be used. During the Covid-19 pandemic a number of public toilets have been closed and we will be monitoring the situation on the lead up to each tour identifying those that are open on our route each day.

We ask that everyone follows the latest government guidance on social distancing.

Finally, please don’t bring any pets on the tours as they can scare wildlife away!

Cancellation

If Wild Discovery cancels the tour then our normal terms and conditions apply. For our Short Tours we are updating this to include scenarios where there are Covid-related travel restrictions preventing us from visiting the destination and/or large scale lockdowns where we believe running the tour would pose negative risks to our guests and the places we plan to visit. We reserve the right to cancel a tour at our absolute discretion.

If you cancel the tour then our normal terms and conditions apply. If however you fall within any of the Covid-19 scenerios bulleted above (under ‘On the Tour’, ‘Covid-19’ section) then please contact us immediately and do not come of the tour. If booking onto an alternative tour is not a viable option then we will give you a full refund.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss any aspect of our tours please don’t hesitate to contact us.
